De Verwilderexpeditie

On Saturday 12 August, you can join a wildlife expedition on the island of Tiengemeten. Not only will you discover the wildest places on the island, but your endurance and perseverance will also be put to the test. Are you up to the challenge? 

The expedition is organised by Natuurlijk Sportief Hoeksche Waard, Natuurmonumenten and TinyParks, focusing on the discovery of nature and outdoor sports. At 10am, the expedition starts with a ferry crossing to Tiengemeten. You will then be welcomed at the visitor centre. Then the real expedition starts with explanations from a nature guide from Natuurmonumenten on the island's plant diversity along the way. Afterwards, you are at the mercy of the elements of nature and the two outdoor playmates of Natuurlijk Sportief Hoeksche Waard, where you discover the natural beauty of the island but also the adventurer in yourself.

With a small group of participants, you will experience the ultimate Verwilder adventure. Wilting in the roughest places on Tiengemeten. Together we traverse the island. We trek through the open plains, ditches, swamps and rugged reedbeds. Wide watercourses are no barrier for you, because you just swim through them. Discover the adventurer in you as you come face to face with a Scottish Highlander or a roe deer. In the island's most desolate and rugged places. 

We start the day with a short educational walk with a field guide from Natuurmonumenten. This guide will tell you all about what is currently growing and what can be seen in season. 

You will also be taught about edible plants growing on the island. 

At the start, you will be given a handy thermos that you can fill with any edible herbs you find along the way. That way, you can make your own tea along the way.
